The Season Of Christmas
Celebrating the Christmas season in a grand way, the name Jesus was explained, along with some Christmas fun facts. Open to see.
Hey everyone, it’s the season of Christmas. It’s a joyous moment as we celebrate the birth of Jesus.
Carol: a religious folk song or popular hymn, particularly one associated with Christmas.
Come to think of it, how well do you know about Christmas?
Some fun facts about Christmas
All the gifts in the Twelve Days of Christmas would equal 364 gifts.
It takes about 15 years to grow the average Christmas tree.
Santa Claus is based on a real person: St. Nikolas of Myra. He is the patron saint of banking, pawnbroking, sailing, orphans, and New York City.
What is Christmas?
Celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ is more than a Christian holiday or Christian festival. It is more than an occasion to decorate our houses. It is an opportunity to pause and give thanks for the love, hope, and joy found in Jesus, our savior and friend.
I have always loved Christmas because of the holidays and harmattan too( at least if I don’t have snow around, I can always wrap myself up when it’s cold). I thought it was a time to only have your family around; you know, you get to celebrate, go out for family picnics, and other Yuletide ceremonies.
More than that, I realized it was a time to reflect on God’s love for humanity. He gave us the best of all gifts. Seeing that we needed to be redeemed, he sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to die for us.
The Names of Jesus
Isaiah 9:6 is a popular memory verse. I remember Sunday school days when we had to recite some Christmas-related memory verses at the carol service. We just read them those times as kids, not fully comprehending the meaning of those scriptures. It read thus:
Isaiah 9:6-
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. (NIV)
That the government will be on his shoulders signifies his lordship and royal authority. Being a wonderful counselor, we can trust Him with all our troubles; we are certain that he cares about us (1 Peter 5:7). He is able to guide us because we know that he has all wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 2:3). All his work on earth was wonderful, beginning from his conception in the womb (Luke 1:31), wedding at Cana( John 2:1–11), healing miracles (Luke 5:20), money from and the mouth of a fish (Mat 17:24–27), and lastly, his death and resurrection (Mat 28:6).
Jesus is a mighty God and an everlasting Father. Jesus being the Prince of Peace is reflected in how he came to unite us back to God in fellowship. Because of Christ’s sacrifice, we are proud to say we are children of God. We become joint heirs with him (Gal 4:7). He made us have eternal peace and also the gift of the Holy Spirit (Gal 4:6). The manifestation of love, joy, and peace is through the gift of the Holy Spirit in us (Gal 5:22–23).
Matthew 1:22
All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).
Another name of Jesus is revealed here, Emmanuel. It gives us the assurance of an anchorage in times of trouble. God with us makes us automatic carriers of his presence. We’re conscious of His presence. We know that God is always with us because we believe in Jesus.
Yuletide Plea
So I enjoin you, dear friend, as you are celebrating Christmas. Take some time to reflect on God’s love and also try to spread the same love to everyone around you. The reason for the season is the Lord’s love.
Spread love. Spread life. Preach Christ.
Don’t miss the next email, same time next week. We would be exploring different carols.
